Renault Edams driver, Sebastian Buemi, claimed his first pole position of the season after a disappointing opening weekend in Hong Kong. Sam Bird was just two-tenths of a second behind him, with Felix Rosenqvist taking third.

 

Saturday’s race in Marrakesh will see Sebastian Buemi starting in pole position for the first time since Paris last year. He set a time of 1:20.355 in Super Pole to snatch pole away from British driver, Sam Bird.

After making a mistake on his flying lap, Felix Rosenqvist had to settle for third, but he wasn’t the only driver to make mistakes on the dusty, desert track.

Lucas DiGrassi had apparent software issues which made him rapidly loose time in the final two sectors of his flying lap. He will start the race back in fifth.

On his Formula E return, Jose Maria Lopez set the fourth fastest time of 1:21.444.

 

But before Super Pole took place, the rest of the drivers were fighting it out for the best possible grid position.

Group 1 struggled with a cold, dusty track. The biggest looser were Jerome d’Ambrosio and Andre Lotterer who will start the race in 16th and 17th respectively.

Group 2 saw Nico Prost struggling to find a competitive pace leaving him back in a disappointing 15th. Alex Lynn, who initially set a pace good enough for the Super Pole shoot-out, was pushed back to 6th by his DS Virgin team mate, Sam Bird.

Group 3 gave us the first big shunt of the morning, as Nick Heidfeld found the wall at turn 7, during his flying lap. He was quick to hold up his hands to the accident, explaining that he was just pushing a little too hard. He will start from 18th place.

Soon after, in group 4, Antonio Felix Da Costa met with the wall in a massive shunt that caused a red flag. He will start the race in 19th, but arguably the biggest losers are Daniel Abt and Oliver Turvey who were unable to set a flying lap after the premature end to their session. They will start the race in 8th and 10th respectively.
