The all-electric racing Formula has, today, announced a huge partnership with Swiss tech giant, ABB, until at least 2025.

“A partnership like this goes far beyond a title sponsorship” was the statement made by Formula E CEO, Alejandro Agag. This joining of forces, lasting until 2035, sees two pioneers in the world of electric cars make a pledge to “push the boundaries of e-mobility”.

This makes Formula E the first FIA single-seater championship to have a title sponsor, transforming them in to the “ABB Formula E Championship”.

The announcement was made at the Saatchi Gallery in London, where Agag commented that he “had to do some convincing” because “Todt was a bit surprised when I told him”.

In their own words, ABB are “pioneering technology leader that is writing the future of industrial digitalization”. The global technology company have a focus on electric vehicle charging, with the largest instalment of fast-charging locations, worldwide.

ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer, speaking at the live event, described the partnership as a “marriage made in heaven”. He believes that “the world of electric racing is about to get another boost”.

This is just the beginning of a series of big changes for Formula E, who will see Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Nissan joining the grid in the near future.

The effects of this partnership won’t just be seen on the track, but in the cars we drive every day. Numerous car companies are using the pioneering race technology to further the development of both hybrid and all electric road cars.

Spiesshofer remarked that this new partnership “will write the future of electric mobility racing, because we are convinced [that] running the world, without consuming the earth is a mandate that we take seriously and this partnership will accelerate further”
